Heidi van Eeden established Clarity Cost Management Limited (CCML) in 2022 to provide clear, reliable and empowering advice to our clients to make their projects a success.
My passion for construction started early, watching my father tilling the farm with our big yellow Caterpillar D8, creating a lush farm from a barren piece of land. This love led to studying Civil Engineering, and my first few years of quantity surveying were dedicated to building roads and civil infrastructure in South Africa, before moving to Ireland in the early 2000s.
Whilst exploring European cities on the weekend, I furthered my knowledge and experience in vertical construction. We build high-dependency care-units, the hotels, offices, community centres and multi-residential buildings. During this stage, I attained a Diploma in Construction Technology and an Honours degree in Construction Economics and Management.
In 2011, I immigrated to New Zealand and incorporated Dycom Limited, a quantity surveying consultancy company providing quantity surveying services to home owners, Body Corporates, and other multi-disciplinary consultancies. It was specifically during this time in Prendos where I developed a deep understanding of construction methods employed in New Zealand, weather-tightness issues and repair solutions required to remedy defects and started working as an expert witness.
Between February 2019 and July 2022, I was employed as a Senior Associate Quantity Surveyor for Maynard Marks New Zealand Limited. During that time, I also undertook project management work for schools and hotels.
My philosophy emphasises continuous improvement, including in education, having "donned the gown four times". The last time was at Massey University, gaining a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (Dispute Resolution). I maintain a keen interest in Dispute Resolution and Construction Contract Law, continuously seeking greater understanding as an expert witness and an associate of the Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ) for over a decade.
My governance and volunteering work are important to me.
I am committed to raising the standard of quantity surveying in New Zealand and have been volunteering with NZIQS for over a decade, serving on the council, board, and various committees.
I also joined the council of AMINZ in 2024 focusing on Strategy, Finance, Risk and on developing the expert witnessing sector including mentoring.
